ILM’s Star Wars Mixed Reality Playset: A Philosophical Skeptic’s Take
ILM unveils ‘Star Wars: Beyond Victory’, a mixed reality playset for Meta Quest, blending physical and digital worlds in a new Star Wars experience.

So, ILM’s latest brainchild is this mixed reality “playset” called Star Wars: Beyond Victory for the Meta Quest. They rolled out the red carpet for it, touting a “brand-new way to dive into the Star Wars universe.” Cute. At its heart? Podracing—because what’s Star Wars without a bit of high-speed, high-risk racing? You’ve got three flavors to choose from: Adventure, where you’re Volo, some wide-eyed podracer stuck with Sebulba (good luck with that); Arcade, which is basically your living room turned into a holotable race track; and Playset, where you can stage your own Star Wars saga with virtual action figures. Groundbreaking, right?
Honestly, though, I’m not sold. The sneak peek video didn’t exactly blow my socks off—but hey, maybe it’s one of those “don’t judge a VR experience by its trailer” situations. In a world where decent mixed reality content is as rare as a peaceful day on Tatooine, slapping Star Wars on anything is pretty much a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. No word yet on when it’s dropping or how much it’ll cost, but you can already wishlist it over at the Meta Horizon store. Is this the mixed reality messiah we’ve been praying for, or just another flashy time-waster? Stay tuned.
