YouTube Experiments with AI Overviews for Premium Users

YouTube is testing AI Overviews, a feature that generates highlight reels from videos for certain search queries, initially available to a select group of Premium members in the US.

YouTube Experiments with AI Overviews for Premium Users

Google’s AI Overviews, which uses Gemini tech to boil down search results into bite-sized summaries, is now eyeing YouTube. Imagine searching for, say, the best espresso machine or tips for surviving a music festival, and getting a neat little highlight reel instead of diving into full videos. Right now, it’s just a handful of YouTube Premium folks in the U.S. getting a sneak peek, and only for searches in English. (Lucky them, right?)

But here’s the kicker: some creators are sweating bullets over this. Why? Because if everyone starts watching these AI-crafted CliffsNotes versions, who’s clicking on the original videos? Google’s playing it cool, though, asking those Premium testers to thumbs-up or down the clips to see what sticks. As for when the rest of us get to play with this feature? Your guess is as good as ours.

Curious to dig deeper? Check out Google’s official announcement—because, let’s face it, we’re all a little nosy when it comes to new tech.
