Apple Developing ‘LLM Siri’ to Rival ChatGPT

Apple aims to revolutionize its digital assistant by creating ‘LLM Siri’, a new AI-driven iteration. The planned enhancements will make Siri more conversational and capable, resembling AI models like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live. Siri’s refined abilities could be unveiled next year, with a major software update slated for spring 2026.

In an effort to revolutionize its digital assistant, Apple is reportedly developing ‘LLM Siri’, a project expected to make Siri resemble OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live. With insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the assistant promises to leverage Apple’s innovative AI models to provide users with more conversational, life-like interactions.

According to reports, Apple’s strategic plan includes enhancing Siri’s capabilities on iPhones, introducing users to more advanced features and interaction possibilities with third-party applications through App Intents. In addition to these interactions, the assistant will also incorporate Apple Intelligence to efficiently summarize and compose text.

While an official announcement could come as early as the following year, Bloomberg projects that a full integration of the new software system will take place by spring 2026. This development was hinted at during an interview with The Wall Street Journal by Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software, who highlighted the distinct nature of the AI-enhanced Siri in comparison to ChatGPT.

Despite a somewhat cautious approach in rolling out these AI advancements, Apple recently introduced ChatGPT integration into Siri in the iOS 18.2 beta. Looking forward, the tech giant plans to further develop Siri’s functionalities, enhancing its ability to comprehend on-screen content and execute commands within apps, with implementations expected next year.
