ILM’s Star Wars Mixed Reality Playset: A Philosophical Skeptic’s Take
ILM unveils ‘Star Wars: Beyond Victory’, a mixed reality playset for Meta Quest, blending physical and digital worlds in a new Star Wars experience.

Ah, the latest spectacle from ILM: a mixed reality “playset” dubbed Star Wars: Beyond Victory for the Meta Quest. They announced it with much fanfare, promising an “entirely new way to experience the Star Wars galaxy.” How quaint. The experience, centered around podracing, offers three modes: Adventure, Arcade, and Playset. Adventure mode follows Volo, an aspiring podracer under the dubious mentorship of Sebulba. Arcade mode lets you race on a virtual holotable, while Playset mode allows you to create “Star Wars moments” with virtual action figures. How revolutionary.
Yet, I remain unconvinced. The video preview left me underwhelmed, though perhaps it’s unfair to judge a book by its cover. Still, in a landscape starved of decent mixed reality content, any Star Wars IP is likely to find an audience. ILM has yet to announce a release date or price, but you can add it to your wishlist on the Meta Horizon store. Will this be the mixed reality savior we’ve been waiting for, or just another shiny distraction? Only time will tell.
