Meta Enhances Smart Glasses with AI-Powered Features

Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are receiving substantial AI-driven enhancements. Available to early access users in the U.S. and Canada, the new firmware v11 enables continuous interaction with Meta AI, removing the need for the ‘Hey Meta’ wakeword. This innovative feature, live AI, permits dynamic conversations with the AI assistant.

One remarkable capability is real-time AI video, allowing users to inquire about their surroundings through the glasses’ camera. This technology, highlighted at Meta’s Connect dev conference, positions Meta ahead in the smart glasses realm, offering functionalities comparable to Google’s Project Astra.

In addition to visual AI, the update brings live translation abilities between English and languages such as Spanish, French, and Italian. When a conversation occurs in these languages, the glasses translate the audio to English, providing text on a connected phone.

Furthermore, the glasses now support Shazam, allowing users to identify music effortlessly. While these features are cutting-edge, Meta acknowledges the room for improvement, aiming to enhance user experiences continually. Shazam integration further enriches the new firmware capabilities.
